Passionate about purpose, mindfulness & impact

Our well-being depends not just on having a source of income, but on having a job in which we can cultivate joy and happiness... Ideally, we are able to work in such a way that is of benefit to the Earth.

About

My journey began in the Western Isles of Scotland, spanned two decades across Asia, and has now returned to Edinburgh's historic landscapes.

After choosing Mandarin studies in Shanghai over university in England, I became Operations Director for a restaurant chain that expanded to 40 locations across seven Chinese cities—until the pandemic offered a profound lesson in impermanence and letting go.

Following my MBA from Beijing in 2010, I joined the Global Institute For Tomorrow (GIFT). As Partner and Managing Director there, I led sustainability initiatives throughout Asia, advised organisations on purpose-driven strategies, and facilitated leadership programmes in 15 countries for executives, civil servants and NGO leaders.

In 2013, insight and zen meditation practices helped me transform debilitating chronic pain from a degenerative back condition into a pathway for growth. This personal awakening led me to pursue a Masters from Bangor University's Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice, dedicating myself to helping others discover their innate capacity for healing and renewal.

Today, my work encompasses teaching mindfulness to athletes and corporate leaders through Mindful Peak Performance, supporting those experiencing pain and stress through Back to Being Courses, and guiding transformative mountain retreats with Wild Mind Odyssey.

My relationship with GIFT evolved into helping establish GIFT.ed, a knowledge platform focused on redesigning society for greater equity, interconnectedness and resilience across global systems.

As a Trustee at Breathworks, the pioneering charity co-founded by Vidyalama Burch OBE, I support their mission to offer mindfulness and compassion-based approaches to living well with pain and illness.

I reside in Edinburgh with my three most treasured mindfulness teachers: my wife Rebecca, and our daughters Na'ima and Amina, who remind me daily of the wisdom found in presence and connection.
